I’m not sure when I was first introduced to Star Wars, because I can’t remember not loving it. My love for Star Wars stems from my Dad’s love for the films. I have seen each film dozens of times with friends, in theaters and with my family. Every year my family holds our “May the fourth be with you” party, a dress up party and movie viewing, just because star wars is awesome…
I think that Star Wars has become such an immense franchise because similar to the popular series Harry Potter, Twilight , and Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, is an alternate reality and escape for some. When the first film came out in 1977 it was unlike anything that had been released before. The special effects were brand new and extraordinary, making this film come to life. The film contains many elements making it appealing to almost anyone, it combines several different genres of film including Science Fiction, Romance and Action. In addition to the visual aspects of the film, Star Wars has an interesting story plot, but the ultimate challenge in this film that keeps people coming back time and time again is the conquer of Good over Evil.
If I was a Jedi and had to sacrifice someone on the ship in order to carry on the choice would not be difficult, I would sacrifice an Ewok. Although the Ewoks are quite possibly the cutest creature in the Star Wars Saga, they do not have as much value to the characters in Star Wars. R2D2, C3PO and Jar Jar Binks are all valuable chacters that have educational and sentimental value to other characters. In a survival situation an Ewok does not exactly fit in very well. R2D2 and C3PO are obviously some of the most important characters in the entire series, and have saved lives countless times. R2D2 is totally techno savvy and can repair almost anything, and C3PO knows over six million forms of communication and acts as the translator for the group. Jar Jar Binks, can be annoying at times, but he contributed greatly to the survival of the Galactic Republic, he was a General, Representative to the Chancellor and later on a Senator.
For some people Star Wars seems ridiculous and too much of a fantasy, but for those of us who grew up with it, and learned to love it, it’s simply part of our childhood. So sorry if you were never into it, but don’t make fun of me for being a Star Wars geek, at least these movies were good quality and have some merit, I’d take Star Wars over Twilight any day.
